Mortgage Lenders Secrets from 1776 – 2009

Book Cover

The Secret of Mortgage Lending Success by Mortgage Trainers of America was published at the end of 2008.

With over 400 pages of data and comment there are many lessons current mortgage professionals can take from this book.

1776 -1960 is defined as the Good Old Boy Era followed by sections on each decade called:
1960′s Advocates, 1970′s Inflation, 1980′s Saving & Loan, 1990′s Refinance Mania and finishing with 2000′s Boom & Bust.
Many people will find it hard not to identify with each of these decade focused comments.

I like the sections on Mortgage insurance, How to spot fraud, Conventional loans products and Alternative loans. There is a big section on what constitutes Prime and non-prime mortgages which can now be read with the benefit of hindsight.

The strong American bias is a draw back but for UK Mortgage Professionals it contains several gems of wisdom. You only need to find one or two gems to make a significant difference to your performance.
I would also advocate contemplating what the next couple of decades may become ‘known as’ and planning your strategy based on history repeating itself maybe!
